What is Delta 8 THC and is it worth the hype?
Cannabis in its natural form contains a whole variety of different beneficial chemical compounds, you’ve probably heard of, or even had an experience with the two most talked about chemical compounds; Delta 9 THC (the main psychoactive component of cannabis) and CBD (the non-psychoactive, largely medicinal component of cannabis), but what exactly is Delta 8 THC? As previously stated, Delta 8 THC is present in nearly all cannabis plants, however it exists in very, very small amounts (fractions of a percent), so many companies have taken to extracting this unique compound into concentrates. Although Delta 8 is present in both cannabis and hemp, most producers derive the compound through hemp, or hemp-derived CBD.
The National Cancer Institute defines Delta 8 THC as, “An analogue of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) with antiemetic, anxiolytic, appetite-stimulating, analgesic, and neuroprotective properties. [Delta-8-THC] binds to the cannabinoid G-protein coupled receptor CB1, located in the central nervous system…This agent exhibits a lower psychotropic potency than [delta-9-THC], the primary form of THC found in cannabis.” So in short, Delta 8 THC is quite similar to Delta 9 THC in its beneficial effects, yet doesn’t produce as potent of a “high” as its sister molecule Delta 9 THC. At this point you may be wondering, “Is Delta 8 legal?” and the answer to your question is yes! In 2018, laws were passed under the “2018 Farm Bill,” which essentially legalized all hemp production and therefore all the chemical components in hemp, (with the exception of Delta 9 THC) which includes Delta 8.

- Help inflammation and pain
- Reduce nausea and stimulate appetite
- Reduce anxiety, insomnia
- Clear-headed “high” compared to Delta 9 THC
