CBD Frequently Asked Questions

What is CBD?

  • CBD also known as cannabidiol, is the second most predominant and recognized of the active chemicals in the cannabis plant. While CBD is one of many hundreds of components in marijuana, our CBD is derived directly from the hemp plant and by itself it does not cause the typical “high” associated with Marijuana and THC. CBD has shown promise in treating a wide variety of health concerns including sleep, anxiety, chronic pain, inflammation, epilepsy and much more. Side effects are typically minimal in comparison to possible pharmaceutical side effects, i.e. nausea, fatigue and irritability. CBD can interact with some medications, check with a health care provider if you are taking medications. Currently, the FDA does not regulate the safety and purity of dietary supplements. All 50 states have laws legalizing CBD.

What is the difference between Full Spectrum, Broad Spectrum and Distillate?

    • Full spectrum CBD products are extracted in a manner that preserves all of the plant’s cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. Full spectrum CBD products are always recommended over other types of CBD extracts because the presence of minor cannabinoids and terpenes enhances the therapeutic effects of CBD. This is known as the entourage effect. Full spectrum CBD products contain trace amounts of THC, however the federally compliant limit of 0.3% is too low to produce intoxicating effects.

    • Broad spectrum CBD products begin as full spectrum extracts, and then undergo an additional refinement process in which the THC compounds are removed. Broad spectrum products will still produce the entourage effect, and are the next best option to full spectrum if a THC-free product is desired.

    • CBD isolate is a highly processed, pure form of CBD. The CBD compounds have been separated from the plant, leaving behind beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes, waxes, and lipids. Isolate products will not produce the therapeutic entourage effect, but are the most appropriate option in certain situations.

What is the difference between CBD and THC?

    • THC binds to naturally-occurring CB-1 receptors in the central nervous system and creates a “high” feeling but has many medical benefits. CBD is a molecule shaped in a way that it binds more directly to CB-2 receptors in cell and body tissues outside the central nervous system.  CBD doesn’t create any of the typical euphoria associated with THC’s high, so it is great for people who want to benefit from cannabis but not feel high.

    Will CBD get you high?

    • Unlike THC, CBD does not make you feel “stoned” or “high” because CBD and THC behave in different ways on disparate receptors in the brain and body.  CBD can actually lessen the psychoactive or "high" effects of THC, which makes CBD great for people who want to reap the benefits of cannabis with out the “stoned” feeling. All the products we carry at Zenbarn Farms do not go above 0.03% THC which means you’ll never get high from them.

Does CBD show up on a drug test?

    • A fully tested, quality, Isolate CBD product has 0 THC and is highly unlikely to show up on a drug test. That being said, some Full Spectrum CBD products contain traces of THC (0.03% THC), in which case it is possible for a screening to pick up on the drug.
