WHAT IS CBN?
CBN (cannabinol) is a mildly psychoactive component found in cannabis that is created when THC oxidizes. It's been shown to help regulate the immune system and works to relieve the pain and inflammation caused by conditions including arthritis and Crohn’s disease. It’s also best known as the cannabinoid with the greatest sedative properties.
The older cannabis that is high in CBN is also high in the three main sedating terpenes. These terpenes, rather than the CBN, could account for the sedative effects.
In one study, researchers tested CBN alone, CBN with THC, and THC alone. The combination of the two produced the highest levels of drowsiness. You may be able to take advantage of CBN’s synergistic effects with THC to get sleep inducing effects. CBN alone is non-intoxicating, but may increase the euphoric effects of THC.
Side effects are typically minimal in comparison to the side effects possible with many pharmaceuticals, i.e. nausea, fatigue and irritability. CBN can interact with some medications, so it is best to check with a health care provider if you are taking medications.
CBN is considered a dietary supplement. The FDA does not currently regulate the safety and purity of dietary supplements
